World Humanist Week 2020

From 21-27 June 2020, the Humanist Society (Singapore) will hold World Humanist Week, combining our World Humanist Day with our Pink Dot activities and a third event that will hold discussions on humanism. With the continued Covid-19 pandemic, we will also be distributing ear savers to our members who need it.

We look forward to seeing you online! More details of the activities below:

A continuation from Asian Humanism Conference 2019 (above), this year’s event will bring two of our panellists back to revisit the challenge of interfaith efforts and community activism in a time of coronavirus.

  1. Danielle Hill, Chair of Asian Regional Committee, Young Humanist International
  2. Nazhath Faheema, Founder of hash.peace

We will catch up with them to understand their involvement in community organisation, their continued work amidst a pandemic, as well as their next steps moving forward. The conversation will be moderated by Tan Ding Jie, Vice President of Humanist Society Singapore.

Do you have burning questions about humanism? Have doubts that you always wanted to clarify? Our most experienced leaders from the executive committee will be available to answer your questions at this session. We will provide a brief presentation about the basic facts about humanism. Beyond that, some tough topics you can consider bringing up to us at the QnA:

  • Is Humanism anti-religion?
  • Is Humanism becoming ‘just another religion’?
  • There is too much emphasis on science in Humanism.
  • Humanism in the post-truth world.
  • On whether Humanists should avoid politics / take part in politics more

Humanists at Pink Dot 2020

27 June (Sat), 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm, via Zoom

[Register here]

Humanist Society (Singapore) has always been supportive of Pink Dot and its causes. However, like humanists, Pink Dot represents a broad spectrum of diverse people, and we do not profess to be experts on the subject. How well do we really know our LGBTQ community?

Dress in pink and join us on Pink Dot 2020! HSS will try to provide a summary of what we understand about the subject, what we’ve customarily done to support the cause, as well as try to find out:

  1. Apart from the LGBT big four, who are the Q?
  2. What can humanist do to help?
  3. How can we be better allies? Do we need to align on every position?

Do turn on your video cameras and wear pink for the session if you can!
