Humanist Society (Singapore) 10th Year Anniversary

On this day ten years ago (10/10/10), the Humanist Society (Singapore) came into being. We started with only 13 members and almost no resources. All we had was a common dream, to build an organisation dedicated to raising awareness of the non-religious and protecting the secular space. Above all, we wanted to help promote rationalism, evidence-based thinking and compassion in the public sphere.

Here are some moments at our founding:

Over the years, we engaged the media, organised many events, and took part in several collaborations and interfaith activities. Many people have stepped forward to volunteer with us. Today, the Humanist Society as it stands is the cumulative effort of several hundred people who have participated, volunteered, donated, and served in the executive committee at some point of time over the past decade. We are indebted to them.

The Covid-19 pandemic has placed a lot of constraints on physical events this year. Nonetheless,  we are working hard behind the scenes to fulfil our mission. Apart from having online events and small-scale physical outings, we are in the midst of completing our first book, a coffee table photo book, showcasing ten years of activities. We target to launch this book at the end of the year.

We are also hoping we can have a physical 10th anniversary celebration in December, if the regulations allow. The Executive Committee will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation, engage venue owners and authorities, and study all available options. If you wish to volunteer for our December celebration, you can write in to info@humanist.org.sg.  We will need planners, emcees, ushers, writers and photographers.

We thank everyone who has supported the Humanist Society over the past decade. We hope to do more, and do better!
