Samkhya Philosophy

Date
29/08/2021

Time
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Atheism is typically seen as a modern phenomenon. Tim Whitmarsh, Professor of Greek and a fellow of St. John’s College, University of Cambridge thinks otherwise. In his book “Battling the Gods” suggested that it exists in more societies, has a wealth of tradition of its own, and, indeed, its own heroes.  We will start exploring Atheism in the Asian context through Samkhya Philosophy, which is well known for its atheism. Classical Sāṃkhya postulates no God, supreme being, or creator of the universe.

In this session, N.Madasamy, current ExCo member and Secretary of the society, will talk about the historical development of Samkhya, basic concepts with regards to evolution including education, and how this ancient philosophy can be applied in modern life.
