As COVID-19 forced everyone to stay home, nursing homes, being caretakers of an extremely vulnerable group, were forced to turn away volunteers to protect their vulnerable elderly residents. Innovation however, in the forms of ZOOMba (online Zumba sessions) and e-Penpals still allowed seniors a glimpse of the outside world and a human touch in this period of social isolation.
This year, HSS is pleased to announce that it will be celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival with the Ah Mas and Ah Kongs of Thong Teck Home for Senior Citizens. We will be starting off by distributing mooncakes to seniors, and then play some icebreaker games where volunteers and seniors can get to know each other better! We will then move on to the conduct a Zumba session with them, exercising to our hearts content! We will then end off with mooncake sampling and a phototaking session! This programme is from 2.30 – 4.30 p.m.

Dear members and subscribers, thank you for your interest in participating in this event. Unfortunately we have received news from the home that the safe distancing requirements are more stringent that we had planned for. The celebration will still go on and the elderly will still get to enjoy the mooncakes and zumba session with our in-person volunteers, but we are no longer able to hold it online due to the lack of sufficient in-person volunteers. We thank you for your understanding.
