The Humanist Society is pleased to invite you to join us for an exclusive guided tour of the Island Adventurer exhibition at the Singapore Science Centre.

  • Date: 12 April 2014
  • Time: 2.30pm
  • Venue: Entrance of Island Adventurer exhibition, Hall B, Mezzanine Floor, Singapore Science Centre

Fee: The tour is free. However, participants are required to pay their own entry fee into the Science Centre.

Hosted by science historian Dr. John Van Wyhe, you will walk in the footsteps of Alfred Wallace during his 8 year jaunt in the Malay Archipelago.

Learn about that state of Victorian science, life in the field and how Wallace’s observations led to his solving some of the most striking puzzles of biogeography, as well as to conceive of the theory of evolution by natural selection independently of Charles Darwin.

The guided tour is only open to the 1st 30 people who RSVP to the email events@humanist.org.sg.

Our Exhibition Guide:

Dr John van Wyhe, a senior lecturer at NUS, wrote and curated the Island Adventurer exhibition. He is a leading expert on Charles Darwin and Alfred Wallace, the Director of Darwin Online and Wallace Online and the author of eight books, most recently Dispelling the Darkness: Voyage in the Malay Archipelago and the Discovery of Evolution by Wallace and Darwin (2013) and Alfred Russel Wallace: Letters from the Malay Archipelago. Foreword by Sir David Attenborough (2013).
