Join us for a book discussion on 'Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do’ by Harvard professor Michael Sandel.
The book introduces various frameworks on justice and also covers underlying ethical issues and moral dilemmas facing us today. It will be a facilitated session where we will exchange views on the book’s content.
Some pertinent topics from the book include:
- Are white lies acceptable under certain circumstances?
- What context favours the use of the alternative frameworks (eg Kantianism vs. Utilitarianism vs. Libertarianism) to make just decisions?
- What are the circumstances that will make humanists more or less ethical? Are humanists better or worse positioned in formulating ethical precepts?
As the session is intended to discuss frameworks and issues raised by the book rather than our personal views of justice and ethics, please read the book before attending the session.
The book is easily available for purchase or borrowing from NLB.
