Effective Altruism proposes a compassionate and rational method of giving. We invite you to join us as we explore how we can maximise the impact of our contributions, whether through donations, volunteering or otherwise.

3.45 – Local speaker Zheng Huifen – Giving: Limited Resources, Maximum Impact
4.25 – Attendee Workshop Activity: Giving Game
6.00 – Skype Interview with Peter Singer
7.00 – Event End

EVENT CONTENT:
Speaker talk and Skype Session to explore:
1. The ethics of, and rational for philanthropy.
2. How to evaluate charities and NGOs.

The Giving Game
Participants will also take part in a hands-on activity to interactively explore the event topic.

SPEAKERS:
Peter Singer has been called the world’s “most influential living philosopher”. He is a professor of bioethics at Princeton and a laureate professor at the University of Melbourne. He specializes in applied ethics through a secular, utilitarian approach.

Zheng Huifen is the Vice-President of the Humanist Society (Singapore) and an experienced corporate and IT lawyer. Apart from the HSS, Huifen is also an active volunteer with AWARE, involved with AWARE’s legal clinics and other projects. Her other pet causes include the Cat Welfare Society, the Vegetarian Society and Medecins Sans Frontieres.
